Dr Thao Phan has been awarded the prestigious Max Crawford Medal by the Australian Academy of the Humanities. As Australia’s highest honour for early-career achievement in the humanities, the award recognises Dr Phan’s pioneering research into how racialisation and racism are embedded within algorithmic culture. Her work sheds light on the social and cultural impacts of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, demonstrating the vital role of humanities and social sciences in shaping our understanding of digital life. This recognition not only celebrates the quality and impact of Dr Phan’s scholarship but also affirms its contribution to enriching Australia’s cultural landscape.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
